Houses have been very quiet since their debut album All Night (2010). They’re one of my favourite ambient / electronic artist, and I had the pleasure of seeing them live last year in London. Finally there’s some movement from within their den; a video preview of their new album A Quiet Darkness has creeped out, and is due to be released on the 16th of April via Downtown Records.
Dexter and his partner Megan have also released a track from the new album called Beginnings, which demonstrates a slightly new direction in style with their much more prominent use of vocals. The sound production also appears to have taken a step up in quality which will no doubt bring us closer to all those intricate piano chimes and bubble pops.
The track behind the video preview is sublime. It made me realise how much I missed their music. The video shows the couple playfully experimenting with sounds in an abandoned house amongst what looks like a desert. I love their instrumental tracks, they’re paced so patiently and their mixture of instruments and sounds layer up to make a velvety soft cake of a track. Listen to Endless Spring and you’ll get what I mean.
I’m still waiting for them to release the Chemical Brothers remix they played in London – so Dexter & Megan if you read this, please send it my way! Until then, enjoy these two tracks, I currently have the untitled video track on loop.
