Lord Huron – Strangers (The Kinks)
I went through my ‘Kinks stage’ when I was 17 after watching Wes Anderson’s Life Aquatic, and Strangers was (and still is) my favorite of all their tracks. Lord Huron who recently released his first album, Lonesome Dreams (2012) often covers this song, especially while playing in London. It’s a good one for him, he likes to sing about ‘strangers’, a little motif.
Neil Halstead – Ohio (Damien Jurado)
I think you could trust Neil Halstead to cover just about any song. Ohio comes from Damien Jurado’s 1999 album Rehearsals For Departure, the original track is already stripped down so Neil’s take on it isn’t all that dramatic. Even so, I haven’t heard the song in a while, so it’s nice the dust’s been brushed off it a bit.
Houses – Miracle Mile (Cold War Kids)
Cold War Kids haven’t yet released their new album, Dear Miss Lonely Hearts, yet Houses have already re-mixed their pre-released single Miracle Mile. The original has a super catchy, fun loving sound. Houses’ take on the track lowers the tempo a tad and charges it with electronic beats and synths. Dexter’s skill in reworking the pace of songs doesn’t fail here. This remix makes a great alternate to the original.
